How do i get a linux operating system?
I would like one of the free linux operating systems for my old computer but i have a really slow connection so i can't download it without it taking a few days. Is there anyway i can order it somewhere and it still be free? Thanks.
if you dont want to order and wiat for about a month then you can buy this months Linux magazine for about £5 ($10) and it comes with 6 different distributions on a CD that can be used as a trial CD or to instal it.

You can request a free CD from Edubuntu, Ubuntu, or Kubuntu, but they take like 4 weeks to deliver.
If you want Solaris you they will be delivered in 2-5 Days in the U.S.

Go to your local mega-bookstore and check for Linux publications in the MAGAZINE section. There are several European mags (Linux Format and Linux Magazine=Linux Pro Magazine in the US) and there are some US-specific mags as well, and they have DVDs with the mags. Problem, you need a dvd reader to use them. Linux Pro Magazine put out an Ubuntu Special Edition just this month, with DVD. Linux Format has a 6 flavor *buntu DVD this month. You might be intersted in the Xubuntu version.

You can also check OpenSuSE which has an installer. (minimum download size). Once installed, it will download what it needs. It's about a CD size.
Other distributions, like ubuntu have good distributions. You might find a friend who has a fast connection and download it with them.
